"Die Verbindung mit dem Krieg, der, während wir das schreiben, andauert, ist unvermeidlich", stellt Arsenije Jovanovic in einem Kommentar zur Radioarbeit fest. Für die Komposition "Concerto grosso balcanico" hat der in Belgrad lebende Künstler Arsenije Jovanovic die Orchestrierung des Krieges verwendet.

Dennoch ist es nicht seine Absicht, den Krieg zu illustrieren: "Es ist vielleicht eine Verarbeitung, eine Verwandlung roher akustischer Wirklichkeit in die Poesie des Tones, die von ande ren Gesetzen bestimmt wird".

Die Transformation einer akustischen Dokumentation des Krieges in ein Stück Tonkunst und radiophone Poesie vollzieht sich aber nicht durch den Einsatz von ästhetischen Klanginstrumenten und schönen Si&ngstimmen anstelle der Gewalt verkündenden O-Töne einer brutalen, "häßlichen" Wirklichkeit: in "Concerto grosso balcanico" bleibt ein Kanonenschuß ein Kanonenschuß, ein menschlicher Schrei bleibt ein menschlicher Schrei. "Das Concerto ist - oder sollte sein - eine freie und offene Tonvision, kein Laut, der vernichtet, sondern ein Klang, der menschliches Unglück erfahrbar macht", sagt Jovanovic.

Zugleich weist er auf den Unterschied zur Dokumentation hin: den Kanonenschuß in seiner radiophonen Bearbeitung und Verfremdung versteht er nicht als Laut einer bestimmten Waffe, die vernichtet, sondern als musikalisches Zeichen, das von seiner ursprünglichen Bedeutung befreit wurde.

Der Hörer kann den Kanonenschuß nicht mehr als solchen identifizieren. Er hört den Ton, dessen Bedeutung seiner Fantasie überlassen bleibt. Dennoch kann er sich der unmittelbaren Wirkung des Tones nicht widersetzen:

"Diese Wirkung ist das Trojanische Pferd, das in das Bewußtsein des Hörers eindringt ( .... ) und in ihm gewisse Bilder schafft, mentale Bilder, die doch dem Krieg und der Vernichtung ähnlich sind." (Zit. von Arsenije Jovanovic)

Nevertheless, it is not his intention to illustrate the war: "It is perhaps a processing, a transformation of raw acoustic reality into the poetry of sound, which is determined by other laws".

The transformation of an acoustic documentation of the war into a piece of musical art and radiophonic poetry does not take place through the use of aesthetic sound instruments and beautiful singing voices instead of the violent original sounds of a brutal, "ugly" reality: one remains in "Concerto grosso balcanico" Cannon shot a cannon shot, a human scream remains a human scream. "The Concerto is - or should be - a free and open tonal vision, not a sound that destroys, but a sound that makes human misfortune tangible," says Jovanovic.

At the same time, he points out the difference to the documentation: he does not understand the cannon shot in its radiophonic processing and alienation as the sound of a certain weapon that destroys, but as a musical symbol that has been freed from its original meaning.

The listener can no longer identify the cannon shot as such. He hears the tone, the meaning of which is left to his imagination. Nevertheless, he cannot oppose the immediate effect of the tone:
